T-670 WHW Donation Token Glass Munich Monument

$25.00

WHW 1942 Deutsche Baudenkmaler glass token.  The German government conducted drives each year to provide food, clothing, and money for the needy.  Called the Winterhilfswerk or “Winter Help Work,” the program consisted of door-to-door and street collections.  For a small contribution, citizens received tokens.  The street collection drive in September 1942 offered pressed glass representations of famous monuments or Baudenkmaler throughout the Third Reich area. The glass tokens were made in a variety of different colors.  This example is today the most popular and desirable of the different designs; this one shows the Mahnmal monument that was placed on the side of the Feldherrnhalle in Munich to commemorate the 9 November 1923 death of the Nazi “martyrs” in the failed Beer Hall Putsch.  The pressing was so exact that you can see the lettering on the monument itself. These “glassies” are usually chipped, and this one has a few edge and corner chips. Condition II
